Entry Requirements:
Candidates should have (a) a diploma or higher certificate in natural or applied science or a related subject from a Hong Kong polytechnic/polytechnic university or Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education/technical institute/technical college, or equivalent; and (b) met the language proficiency requirements of Level 2 or above in Chinese Language and English Language in Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (HKDSEE) or Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination (HKCEE) or equivalent (Note 1).
Note :
(1) For appointment purpose, ‘Grade C’ and ‘Grade E’ in Chinese Language and English Language (Syllabus B) in the HKCEE before 2007 are accepted administratively as comparable to ‘Level 3’ and ‘Level 2’ respectively in Chinese Language and English Language in the 2007 HKCEE and henceforth.
(2) Final year students in relevant diploma or higher certificate courses may also apply. Their appointment will be subject to their successful obtaining the required qualification.
(3) Candidates with registration under Part II of the Register of the Medical Laboratory Technologists Board of Hong Kong are preferred.
(4) May be required to work on shift in remote area of the New Territories, carry out stand-by duties and irregular hours including evenings, weekends, Sundays and public holidays.

Duties:
The Laboratory Support Officer is mainly deployed on (a) assisting Veterinary Officer (VO) in performing laboratory procedures including sampling, data input and record keeping; (b) liaising with other parties within AFCD and with other government departments for veterinary testing procedures; (c) assisting in running veterinary laboratories including the acquisition, operation and maintenance of equipment and apparatus, and the purchase and handling of chemicals/materials; (d) assisting in registration of submitted samples and other supportive work relating to laboratory testing; (e) filing and retrieving of laboratory records and other office/laboratory operation jobs; (f) carrying out animal carcasses delivery duties if necessary; and (g) performing any other duties as assigned by supervisors.

Terms of Appointment:
Successful candidates will be appointed on 1 year non-civil service contract terms.

Fringe Benefits
Rest days, public holidays (or substituted holidays), maternity leave, paternity leave, sickness allowance, where appropriate, will be granted in line with the provisions of the Employment Ordinance. 14 days paid annual leave will be granted but there will be no end-of-contract gratuity.
